Masala Oats | Oats Indian Style


Masala Oats


Oats are nutritious and healthy, what about starting your beautiful day with a bowl of Masala Oats? Masala oats are quick and easy to make for breakfast and also can make a weeknight dinner. Do try this recipe at home and share your thoughts in the comment section.


Serves: 2-3
Preparation time: 5 mins.
Cooking time: 12 mins.


Ingredients:


1 cup oats (i used quaker quick oats)
2 ½ cups water
½ teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
5-6 curry leaves
1 medium sized onion (finely chopped)
1 medium sized tomato (finely chopped)
1-2 green chillies
½ teaspoon garam masala
½ teaspoon lemon juice(optional)
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste


Directions:


  1. Dry roast the oats in a pan until golden brown. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  3. Once they splutter, add in chopped onions and green chillies and saute until translucent.
  4. Add in chopped tomatoes and cook until mushy.
  5. Add in turmeric powder, garam masala, red chilli powder and salt. Saute the spices for a minute to get a nice aroma.
  6. Now, pour in water and allow it to boil.
  7. Once the water starts boiling, add in roasted oats.
  8. Mix well and cook it covered for another 3-4 minutes.
  9. Oats should be cooked by now and you can adjust the consistency as per your needs at this time by adding water or boiling the oats for more thicker version.
  10. Add in chopped coriander leaves and serve warm.


Tips:
  • You can add in veggies as per your choice to make it even more healthy.
